We had a great Thanksgiving with some of Jim's family at Laurelee's house. Unfortunately we neglected to snap any pictures. It was a nice restful day for us though. We also did our annual newspaper toss but again neglected to get a picture. The boys enjoyed it as always. The day after Thanksgiving we started getting out our Christmas decorations. Jim decided to put a single red ornament on our walnut tree outside - it resembles Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. It makes us smile.
We are looking forward to the Christmas season and for the time we have to stop and really reflect on our Savior.

Stephanie came to Utah for Thanksgiving, so we were able to snag her for a couple of days and spend a little time with her. We sure love her. We went with Sally to her neighbor's annual tree lighting ceremony. It was fun to see Christmas lights and decor and be with fun people.
ASHA Convention
November 16 - November 20
Jim had the opportunity to go to San Diego for the American Speech and Hearing Association Convention. We were originally planning on taking a family vacation and all go together, but it didn't work out for us to do that so Jim went alone. He was able to stop by Redlands and see some friends and our old house and then headed down to San Diego. He stayed at a nice hotel in the gas lamp district a mile or so from the San Diego Convention center. He was also able to attend the San Diego temple on his last day there. Here are a few pictures from the trip.

I am glad that he was able to go, but I am very thankful that he doesn't have to travel for work very often. We sure missed him at home.
Cougars

Samuel got a free ticket to a BYU women's basketball preview and he wanted to go so bad (not sure why though). Jim decided to take him after much pleading. Samuel had a blast. They sat right by the band. I think Samuel was more excited about that than he was about the basketball game.
Jane Is 6 Months Today

Jane turned 6 months old today. I can hardly believe that 6 months has already passed by - it is crazy how fast time goes. She has been so fun to have around and is just a joy. Her stats at her 6 month check up:

Halloween

The weather could not have been any more perfect on Halloween night. It was a beautiful night with just the right temperature outside to enjoy a little trick or treating. I love living in a neighborhood where we can go around door to door - it is so nostalgic for me.
Carving Pumpkins

We had fun carving pumpkins this year. Last year we painted them but this year we decided to actually carve them. We had a good time creating our masterpieces. Samuel did not enjoy putting his hands in to get the seeds out. George on the other hand had a blast doing it. We were able to grow a few of our own pumpkins (mostly small ones that we didn't carve) this year but we went up the street to Tyler's pumpkin patch and picked out a few to carve.

Red Ribbon Week School Concert
October 27, 2011
As a finale to Red Ribbon Week at school, all of the classes at Provost Elementary put on a concert singing songs they had been working on. It was a pretty big deal. Each grade level performed a song and had a few students say a little introduction. Samuel was one of the three chosen for his grade to do a speaking part. He said, "Parents it is good when you give us rules". It was a little hard to hear but he did a great job remembering his part. It ended up being a great success and I think they had a great time learning the songs. Hopefully it will help Samuel and other students remember to say no to drugs and alcohol. 
Moss Halloween Party

We met at Helen's house this year for Grandma's annual Halloween party. The kids always have such a fun time and it is great to get together and see each other for a bit. This year George dressed up as a dinosaur

Fall

We took a little Sunday drive up the canyon and stopped to take some pictures of the gorgeous fall leaves. The most amazing colors were right at the mouth of the canyon - a picture just doesn't do it justice! The colors this year seem so vibrant.

It was a little chilly and we weren't really dressed for cool/cold weather so I just grabbed whatever I had on hand to wrap Jane up in. She loved being outside and looking at everything. I don't think the cold bothered her one bit.

Smart Start Wrestling
October 11, 2011
Samuel has been participating in smart start wrestling through the Provo city recreation department. Jim goes with him and helps him with the exercises that are taught. He has had a lot of fun learning about wrestling and he has picked up on it pretty fast. I like that it uses up lots of energy.

His classes were only during the month of October - so it gave him a taste of wrestling. I went and watched on one of the nights and was glad that I didn't have to go every time. It seemed so rough at times but I guess that is how the sport goes??? I was glad he enjoyed it.

Character Counts
Samuel was presented with an award today at school. Each month his school has a character trait that is emphasized. This month the trait was "Honesty". 
Each teacher gets to choose one boy and one girl who they think exemplify this character. Samuel was chosen from his class. George, Jane and I attended the assembly. Samuel was pleasantly surprised when his name was called. Even though I didn't get a picture and he didn't see us, we were there to see him awarded. I am proud of Samuel and the good example he is.

Jane's New Dress
This is the second dress that I have ever made - the first was the same pattern just smaller. I have really enjoyed learning how to sew this dress and now I keep thinking of other things to try to sew for Jane. This is a super easy dress pattern that I bought from Libby Lou's Boutique on etsy.
Girls are so fun (I obviously love my boys too - I just don't get as excited about boy clothes).
Weekend Getaway
October 1-2, 2011
We decided to take a quick trip to Las Vegas over General Conference Weekend to visit Jim's sister Anne and her family (and stock up on Trader Joe's stuff). We had a great time there and it was a nice little getaway. The boys had a blast as well.
We, of course, were thrilled when we heard the announcement of the renovation of the Provo Tabernacle into a temple. Jim and I had been speculating and we both kept saying how awesome it would be to have the tabernacle turned into a temple. I think we both gave an audible shout of joy. Here is an artist's depiction of what the temple will look like. I think it will be beautiful!

On Sunday after the last session of conference we took a nice drive to see the Hoover Dam and the enormous bridge that was recently built there. We walked up the steps to get to the top of the bridge where there is a walkway that you can walk on and look down to see the dam. The walkway extends into Arizona.

Samuel thought it was pretty cool that he could walk into a different state on a bridge. The view was amazing and a little frightening - Jim has been having nightmares ever since we returned. As we were walking up the steps I was trying to keep Jane covered so that she wouldn't get sunburned on her head (I forgot to pack a hat). As I was situating the blanket I felt something wet and warm - when I moved my hand to see what it was, I discovered that Jane had pooped and it was EVERYWHERE. It was on her legs, the front pack, my shirt - everywhere. We were almost at the top so I figured we might as well get a good look and then I would head back down to the car to change her diaper and clothes and clean everything up. I wrapped the blanket that was covering her head around her legs so that you couldn't see any of the mess. It was super windy at the top of the bridge (hence the windblown hair) but it was amazing.

I got back to the car and with the help of Ron (my brother in law) was able to get Jane changed, cleaned, and put into new clothes. Unfortunately I didn't pack an extra set of clothes for me. Ron rummaged through the back of his van and found a very warm, flannel or fleece hunting jacket. 
Did I mention we were in Las Vegas? It was a warm day, but I figured it was better to wear this warm jacket rather than a poopy shirt. Jim, Anne, Samuel ,and George came back to the car and we drove down to the dam and took a few pictures and then headed back to Anne and Ron's house.
