March 5, 2011
This was a great Saturday to work outside in the yard and get our garden started. We needed some mulch, so I sent Jim to Home Depot to get our favorite mulch (organic turkey manure). While he was there picking up the things we needed, he noticed that there was a kids class going on in the back. Home Depot offers these classes regularly (for free) but we have never taken advantage of it. He was able to snag a couple of the cars and aprons from the class and brought them home to build with the boys. They had a great time building their cars.
After the cars were built we headed outside to get the garden area ready and seeds planted. We planted peas, carrots, radishes (new for us this year), beets, lettuce, spinach, and onions. I always get really excited this time of year when we start planting vegetables. The boys love being outside and helping with the planting - let's hope it stays that way as they grow older.

Dads and Doughnuts

March 4, 2011
One of the many events that Samuel's elementary school puts on is called "Dads and Doughnuts". This is a chance for dads (or other dear ones) to come to the school and read with their child. Samuel thought it was pretty neat to have Jim there reading with him.

Planting Seeds
March 4, 2011
It's that time of year again and I have two great helpers! We have been very excited about getting our seeds started for our garden. Both boys enjoyed helping me get everything ready. We started a few seeds inside including: tomatoes (a must have), peppers, cilantro, basil, and coleus (Samuel is obsessed with coleus - it won't be in our garden, just outside as a pretty plant) for now. We will start some other plants in a few more weeks.

Ski Lesson #2
February 18, 2011
Samuel was able to have another ski lesson this season. The instructor Samuel had this time around was perfect for his second time. He pushed him a little harder and Samuel was able to learn even more. He had a great time too.

Fun With Boxes
I love how much fun my boys have playing with a simple box. Who needs toys when you can have a box?

Good Manners
February 14, 2011
Samuel was chosen to receive an award at school today. The assembly was in the morning before afternoon kindergarten started so Samuel, George, and I went over to the school (I didn't tell Samuel why we were going there). Samuel sat through most of the assembly without many questions but began to get restless toward the end. His group was announced very last in the assembly and he was quite surprised when he heard his name. He was recognized for his good manners at school. Way to go Samuel!
